Management Tips For Taking On a New Project

When your company is working on a big project you want to make sure that it goes well.  Projects will always need skilled employees and managers to run them properly, but if you don't use the right techniques your project may not go as well as you had hoped it would.  Everybody from Alex F Bouri to the manager of the coffee shop on the corner have had to work with their employees on a project.  If you're going to be starting a big project soon, be sure to keep these bits of advice in mind.

Don't Pair Up Like Minded Employees

Let's say your company is working on a big multi-leveled marketing campaign and that you need to pair up your employees to work on different parts of the project.  Naturally you'd think to pair up your two best people in your social media department with others who think like them, but if you want to have a successful and innovative project you'd be better off paring them with employees from different departments.  When you pair up like minded people you're going to get a predictable and so-so project, but when you bring together people with different ideas your employees will be able to create new approaches.

Encourage Creativity and Ideas

You want your employees to be able to handle making their own decisions, but they won't be able to unless you give them a chance to.  One of the biggest mistake a manager can make is over managing their own projects.  As a manager your job is to make sure that the project goes smoothly and to handle any questions or concerns your employees have, it's your employees' job to create it and improve upon it.  Encourage your employees to share their ideas and let them know that you appreciate their work.  If you're able to create an environment where employees feel safe sharing their ideas, you'll be able to innovate your projects and products like never before.

Keep Their Individuality In Mind

Your employees may have like minded employees who are able to follow your rules, but no matter how obiedent and similar they are they'll never be you.  It's important to remember that everybody has their own special way of getting things done, and sometimes their way may not be the way you envisioned.  Sometimes it may work out, and other times it may not, but you have to let your employees use their best judgment and make their own decisions.
